Renewing my mind

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

In such a tumultuous political time, it is hard to see who God’s will is to lead our nation.  Hillary has allegedly masterminded murders, Trump is obnoxious, and I don’t really know about Bernie….  but I do know that whoever becomes our next President will be there by the Lords hand.  Father it is hard to believe what this nation is sliding into.  Thank you for loving us enough to send your son to save us.  Thank you Jesus that you will save my babies too.

I didnt, but could have written this

People that knew me years ago, are always impressed? Amazed? At how my life has been “transformed”. Other than really trusting, and trying to obey God, I haven’t had a whole lot to do with any significant change.   After making an incredibly hard decision about 15 years ago, God began opening doors I never expected to open. A pretty severe depression, followed the decision.  However, without realizing it at the time, God began to transform my mind. Instead of always assuming whoever, disapproved of whatever I was doing, I chose to not think the worst…. I am not always successful at it, and can still fixate on the negative, with that in mind, this devotional resonated with me. (The scripture that follows is also some of the first scripture I memorized)

Set Your Course

The devil is ever so crafty in communicating negative messages. He will do everything in his power to keep us from getting on the right train of thought.
We have to be committed to know, to learn, and to retrain our thinking. We have to work at believing God’s voice spoken through His Word, more than all the other voices that have spoken into our lives—including our own.

Begin every day by first checking the destination board and picking the right train of thoughts. Ask yourself, “Where do I want to end up today?” And then set your course going in the right direction. Take God’s thoughts and replace yours with His. This is the process of renewing your mind—of becoming someone who thinks and, consequently, lives differently than you do now.

I start every morning filling my mind with the Word of God. I need to remind myself of what God says about me and every circumstance in life. When I am armed with the truth of His Word, I am able to contend with the onslaught of fear, doubt, insecurity, negativity, and lies that the enemy hurls at me daily.

Knowing who we are in Christ, and what we have in Christ, is the key to setting our course and staying on track every day. We have to think God’s truth and say it daily—because it is only the truth we know that sets us free. And the only way to know God’s Word is to read it, meditate on it, study, and apply it to our everyday lives.

Renewing your mind is applying the Word in a very practical way. It’s changing your thoughts—the seat of power that directs your entire life, and the way it goes.

Today I am reading day 3 of For The Love – By Jen Hatmaker :

Today’s devotion is “Hope for Spicy famlies”, if I could help parents understand that they may be undermining their child’s development by rigging up a fakely  (I made that up) safe environment, I would feel that I have accomplished a goal. 

I blew it so many times as a parent… I was a screamer until I read Mommy ease don’t scream…..  There was a time, Miranda and I didn’t really get along…. and Deven, just exhausted me…. their dad and I divorced….. so many things that I could have done differently..(probably not the divorce tho) … but I love the people these 2 turned out to be.

Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

I have a particular staff member that is annoying me.  Ticking me off even.  I am tired of the negativity.  While praying about how to respond to those negative people in my life, I stumbled upon a Jen Hatmaker devotional.  These were the 2 scriptures that were part of it today. GOD is always speaking to my heart.
